I’ve written so many posts about mindfulness lately, that I decided to share a bit of fun that I have enjoyed today – singing. I think music is such a wonderful thing and can even turn a dark day into a brighter one. Singing is something that makes me incredibly happy.
I’m not a good singer, but it doesn’t mean that I can’t enjoy it. Today, I went to a karaoke bar in Soho with some fellow colleagues and enjoyed belting out some tunes. A great thing about karaoke is that you don’t even need to be good at singing to enjoy it. Everyone sings together as they hear a song they know.
Singing builds great communal spirit too. I once wrote a dissertation at university about the communal power of singing national anthems. But whether it’s a national song or a power ballad, rock ‘n roll, rapping or whatever takes your fancy, singing as a group is extraordinarily fun.
Perhaps music isn’t your thing, but whatever gets your heart beating, your soul buzzing with beautiful energy or your face smiling so much that your cheeks hurt, it’s something you should do more of. Do what makes you happy and share the fun and happiness with those around you.
For those of you who have been following my Instagram posts, ‘Sing’ (or specifically ‘singing in public’) is number 30 of my 100 things to do list this year 🙂
